Defiance Democrat (Defiance, OH) 3/1/1883
Joseph Bauer, Esq., an old and highly respected citizen of Defiance, died last 
Tuesday morning at half past seven o'clock, aged 56 years, 8 months, and 13 
days, of consumption.  He was born in 1826 in Baden, Germany, and emigrated to 
this country in 1849, when he located at Defiance and remained to the time of 
his death.  He has won a large circle of warm friends in this and surrounding 
communities.  Four orphans, three girls and one boy, bemoan the loss of a kind-
hearted father.  The funeral rites are being said this (Thursday) forenoon at 
the residence of the deceased and at St. John's Catholic Church.

His full name is Joseph Bauer, Jr. and is buried in New Riverside Cemetery, 
Defiance, Defiance Co., OH
