Center Village is a small cemetery on the north side of Center Village Road on the west edge of Center Village. A Methodist Episcopal church, built about 1845 and demolished about 1970, previously occupied the space immediately to the east of this cemetery. The earliest burial in this cemetery was in 1852; the most recent 1925. Center Village Cemetery is the burial place of one War of 1812 veteran and thirteen Civil War veterans although the exact location of two of the Civil War graves is unknown. Rows were read East to West; Graves were read South to North Row 1 (1935 WPA map shows 32 graves numbered from north to south) 1-1 Hannah, wife of Beers Roberts, d. Nov 19, 1858, age 46y11m23d - broken. Only the last line of the inscription on the stone is readable - "To meet her loved ones in the skies." Signed at the bottom - D. Bennet & Co. Powell note - In 1947 there were small marble obelisks, - "to Hubble or Hubbell children. One may be A.R. Hubbell, d. at ? Aug 31, 1864, aged 19y9m29d" Added note: Daniel Hubbell died at Andersonville; William Hubbell may have died at Andersonville ? WPA shows as southern-most (first) of the 3 graves. Cryder lists as grave 3. Graves 7-2 and 7-3 are on one stone 7-4 Possibly other stone pieces beyond. Footstone - GMS 7-5 Pediment at north end of cemetery Sons of the Union Veterans lists Peter C. Carr, born 1818, died August 17, 1899 for Center Village Cemetery with location unknown. Peter C. Carr was born in 1806 in Morris, NJ; married Pelia (Pela) Ann Hartrum, d/o George Hartrum and Anna Tharp; Pelia died in 1901 and is presumably buried in Center Village Cemetery. 1880 Census shows Peter age 74, Pela age 64 (born in NJ), and son David S., age 29, born in NJ living in Centerville (Center Village) Sons of the Union Veterans lists Washington Williams, no birth or death, 152nd Iowa, as Center Village Cemetery with location unknown. Washington Williams was born in Ohio in 1838; he was a blacksmith in Center Village on the 1880 census. His parents were born in NJ, his wife Mary A. was born in Ohio in 1843. His step-son, John Clutter born in 1865, was living with them in Centerville on the 1880 census.
