Harlem Cemetery is on the south side of Gorsuch Road on the east edge of Harlem. It is the oldest cemetery in Harlem Township. The earliest burial was in 1814; the most recent was in 1913. It is the resting place of four confirmed and one unconfirmed Revolutionary War soldiers, two War of 1812 soldiers, and five Civil War soldiers - one of whom is in an unidentified grave. Some of the oldest stones in the cemetery are in excellent condition. A tremendous find in the 2010 reading was the inscription of the cutter on the bottom of one of the stones from 1851 - Brother Daniel D. Bennet, sculpt. Daniel Bennet was an ordained minister and one of the first settlers in the township. His father, Ishmael, had been a stone cutter in Pennsylvania before they came to Ohio in 1809. But this was the first evidence that the Bennet's had continued to cut stones after they came here. Both Daniel and Ishmael are buried in Harlem Cemetery. Rows were read West to East; graves were read North to South Row 1 1-1 Bases and partial stone(s) by fence on west edge of cemetery Row 2 2-1 Gratia B. Closson, d.
