Mr. Edwards was born in Delaware county, Ohio, September 7, 1827, and came to Iowa in 1848, and was married to Miss Mary Streets on January 28, 1849. This union was blessed with thirteen children, five of whom---David, Richard, Sanford, Mrs. John Clark, Mrs. John Abrams, and a feeble mother, survive to mourn his loss. Deceased had many warm friends who mourn with the grief-stricken family. Death at all times seems sad, but when a father is stricken down how terrible indeed is the dread messenger and how powerless are we to console those who mourn. Mr. Edwards was a soldier and served his country three years in Company F, Thirty-first regiment, Iowa infantry. He claimed saving faith in Christ under the labors of Elder Buck of the Advent church in the winter of 1869-70. Deceased was one of the pioneers of Jackson county and had built himself up a fine home in the valley of the North Fork, Maquoketa. He was a loving husband, a kind father, a generous neighbor, and the sorrowing family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community. The funeral services were conducted at the residence on Sunday by Rev. W. C. Thompson, of Iron Hill. His remains were enclosed in a beautiful casket, a large cortege of sympathizing friends, relatives and neighbors followed his remains to their last resting place in the Streets cemetery where he will await the final resurrection morn. Dear father, thou hast left us, And thy loss we deeply feel; But it is God that hath bereft us, He can all our sorrows feel.
