For two weeks, Mr. Smale's life had been in the balance, as he was suffering from apoplexy. Two hemorrhages of the brain were very derogatory to the recovery of the patient. Practically all of Mr. Smale's life was spent in Delaware, he having come to this city from Berks County, Pennsylvania, when very young. For thirty-one years he was employed by the V.T. Hills company, and during his lengthy service he never missed a day's wages. Personally, Mr. Smale was a very devout man, being a charter member of St. John's church. He was also a member of the National union. The funeral will be held at St. John's church, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and Rev. Sifferd and Dr. Shaffer will have charge of the services. The burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery, with Miller Bros. conducting the arrangements. Mr. Smale is survived by his wife, Julia C. Smale; two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Shearer, of Springfield, and Mrs. Charles Reinart, of Ashley; one brother, Mr. John Smale, of Delaware; two daughters, Mrs. Alice Bush of Delaware, and Mrs. Minnie Bartow of Toledo; and two foster sons, Elmer Smale of Spencerville, and Frank Cook of Delaware.
