Smale Jay E. Smale, 77, of Delaware, died Monday (Dec. 3, 2007) unexpectedly at his home. He was born July 27, 1930 in Dola to Leonold and Edna (Bowman) Smale. He has been a resident of Delaware County since 1944. He graduated from Hyatts High School in 1949. He served his country as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army Airborne Division during the Korean War. He was a retired tool cutter grinder for the Abex-Denison Co. He is survived by one sister, Jean Sealey; four nieces, Deb (Wayne) Byus, Ginger (Dan) Williams and Vivian Tilton, all of Delaware and Vicki Tilton of Pittsburgh; three nephews, Steve (Mary) Sealey of Delaware, Jerry (BJ) Smale of North Carolina and Ralph Kellner of Germany; one sister-in-law, Audrey Smale of North Carolina; one cousin, Richard Smale of Delaware; and many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy and Jerrold Smale; and one sister, Joan Tilton. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home, 32 W. Winter St., where the funeral service will be at 2 p.m., with the Rev. William Benner of the Church of Christ in Christian Union officiating. Interment will follow in the veteran’s section of Oak Grove Cemetery, where the Delaware County Veterans Association will conduct full military honors.
