"Bob" Tilton, 86, of Delaware, died Sunday evening (March 11, 2001) at the Veteran's Administration (VA) Hospital in Dayton. He was born Sept. 6, 1914, in Adrian, Mich., to Mary (McCluskey) Tilton and Eugene R. Tilton. A World War II Army veteran serving in the 80th Division, he was a prisoner of war in Germany, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He lived most of his life in Delaware County and was owner of Tilton Insurance Co. in Ashley for 30 years. He was a member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War Chapter No. 1 in Columbus, Ashley American Legion, Ashley United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Ashley Lions Club. Mr. Tilton is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Vivian and Kenneth Gasmire of Delaware and Vicki Tilton of Pittsburgh, a grandson, Russell Waspe of Blacksburg, Va.; a sister- in-law and her husband, Jean and Bob Sealey of Delaware, and a brother-in-law, Jay Smale of Delaware. His wife, Joan Lee Tilton, died Aug. 28, 1994. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Tilton. Visiting hours were to be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bennett Brown Rodman Funeral Home, Delaware, where the Elks Lodge will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Ashley Union Cemetery, with the Rev. Dirk Elliott officiating. Members of the Delaware County Veterans Association will provide military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware County Council of Older Adults.
