Regards, Liz Garber Miller Chapter 1 MILLER FAMILY GENEALOGY William Miller and Elizabeth Detrich Family William Miller (1) was born in Flacht, Nassau, Germany on 20 March 1801. The town of Flacht is north of Frankfort and south of the towns of Limburgh and Diez, Germany. In 1829 , he married Elizabeth Detrich of Holzheim, Nassau, Germany. She was born in 1805. William and Elizabeth had 7 children in Diez area of Germany. One infant died there. The surviving 6 children were William Miller Jr.; Anton (Anthony) Miller; Wilhelmina (Elmana) Miller; Philliphine Miller; Charles Miller and Elizabeth Miller. In Germany, William Miller was a farmer while sons learned trades of carpentry and tailoring as well as farming. In 1851, the family emigrated to America and settled in Sandusky, Erie County, OH. From the family bible, William Miller Jr. wrote, "1 May 1851, came to America penniless." William and Elizabeth Miller died in Sandusky. William died in December 1881 and Elizabeth in May 1886. They are buried in the North Ridge of Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky. Anton (Anthony) Miller Anton (Anthony) Miller (2), son of William and Elizabeth Detrich Miller, was born in 1848 in Nassau, Germany. Nothing else is known about this branch of the family tree. Philliphine (Philipena) Miller Philliphine (Philipena) Miller (2), daughter of William and Elizabeth Detrich Miller, was born in 1843 in Nassau, Germany. Nothing else is known about this branch of the family tree. Wilhelmina (Elmena) Miller Family Wilhelmina (Elmena) Miller (2), daughter of William and Elizabeth Detrich Miller, married William Voight of 882 Railroad Street, Sandusky, Erie County, OH. Per Eliz OBIT. Nothing else is known about this branch of the family tree. Elizabeth Miller Family Elizabeth Miller (2), daughter of William and Elizabeth Detrich Miller, maybe married an Ohlemacher. Nothing else is known about this branch of the family tree. Charles Miller and Angeline Doerflinger Family Charles Miller (2), son of William and Elizabeth Detrich Miller was born in 1829 in Germany. In the US, Charles Miller worked in New York and Ashland County OH as a journeyman tailor before settling in Sandusky where he opened a merchant tailoring business. In 1857, he formed a partnership with Julius Robrhan. In 1881, Charles became sole proprietor. He married Angeline Doerflinger in 1855 in Sandusky. Nothing else is known about this branch of the family tree. William Miller Jr. and Phillippine Ohlemacher Family William Miller Jr. (2), son of William and Elizabeth Detrich Miller, was born 1 May 1831 in Holzheim, Nassau, Germany. On 25 December 1856 in Norwalk, Huron County, OH, William Miller Jr. married Phillippiene Ohlemacher. She was the daughter of Daniel Ohlemacher and Dorothy Sauer who were from Burg Schwalbach, Nassau, Germany. Phillippiene, nicknamed Bena, was born 23 January 1836 in Bachsculbach or Buchwalbach Amt Dietz Germany. The family bible of William Miller Jr. says her birth location was the latter while a 1979 Ohelmacher family genealogy book lists the first location. Phillippiene came to America with her brother, Philip Ohlemacher and sister, Jennie (Yona) Ohlemacher about 1855. The rest of her family followed in the early 1860's. Phillippiene's Ohlemacher siblings were Frederick Johann; Elizabeth; Philip; Christina; Christine; Minnie and Helene. Frederick Johann Ohlemacher married Wilhelmina Loos Elizabeth Ohlemacher married Peter Euler Philip Ohlemacher married Christina Hund, his first cousin. Nettie Ohlemacher married Philip Dietrich Christina (Jennie,Yona) Ohlemacher married Adam Senft William and Phillippiene Ohlemacher Miller had three children - William Miller, Charles Miller and Henry Miller in Huron County, before she died on 22 January 1861. She is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Ridgefield Township Huron County OH. William Miller and Elizabeth Bollenbacher Family William Miller (3), son of William and Phillippiene Ohlemacher Miller, was born 18 November 1857 in Lyme Township, Huron County OH. On 17 February 1882 near Bellevue, Huron County, William Miller married Elizabeth Bollenbacher, daughter of Philip Bollenbacher. She was born 22 December 1853. William and Elizabeth Bollenbacher Miller had the following children: Dora and Anne. Anne E. Miller (4) was born on 24 September 1884 and d. 31 July 1968. She was a practical nurse and never married. Dora Miller (4) was born 17 April 1883. She married Parson F Brooks on 30 March 1910. Parson and Dora Miller Brooks had the following children: Karl William Brooks (5) was born 9 April 1911 Elizabeth Rose Brooks (5) was born 8 December 1912 Rachel Anna Brooks (5) was born 24 November 1915 Virginia Brooks (5) was born Nov 12, 1918 Theodore P. Brooks (5) was born 14 April 1924 Parson Brooks died 9 May 1927 and his wife, Dora Miller Brooks died 6 September 1971. Both are buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk, Huron County. William Miller died 24 September 1929 and Elizabeth Bollenbacher Miller died 21 September 1921. Both are buried at St Paul's German Lutheran Cemetery located in Lyme Township Huron County. Charles Miller and Louise Geyer Family Charles Miller (3), son of William and Phillippiene Ohlemacher Miller, was born 1 January 1860 in Ridgefield, Huron County OH. On 25 March 1889, Charles Miller married Louise Geyer. She was born on 27 October 1861. They had one son, Burt Miller. Burt Miller (4) was born 3 May 1890. He married Carrie Schaefer on 2 April 1913. She was born on 4 Nov 1894. After his first wife died, he married a second time to Amanda Stein Stevens. She died on Dec 15 1970. Charles Miller died 7 May 1955 and Louise Geyer Miller died 7 March 1946. Henry Miller and Elizabeth Strecker Family Henry Miller (3), son of William and Phillippiene Ohlemacher Miller, was born 01 January 1858 in Lyme Township, Huron County OH. Henry Miller married Elizabeth Strecker who was born in 1866. They had one son, Clarence Miller. Clarence Miller (4) was born in 1893. He married Pearl Lowry on 1 August 1917. They had one son, Durard Miller. Durand Miller (5) was born 20 November 1919. Henry Miller died in 1945 and Elizabeth Strecker Miller in 1941. Both are buried at Riverside Cemetery, Ridgefield Township, Huron County OH. William Miller Jr. and Mary Jane Gross Family William Miller Jr. (2), son of William and Elizabeth Detrich Miller, was born 1 May 1831 in Holzheim, Nassau, Germany. In Sandusky, William Miller Jr. was employed as a carpenter and attended night school. Around 1863, he purchased a farm of 115 acres in Groton Township (about 4 miles north on route 99 from junction of route 113) and enlarged the farm to a total of 457 acres. After an 1887 barn fire, he engaged in raising & shipping of cattle stock. After the death of his first wife, Phillippiene Ohlemacher Miller, William Miller Jr. married a second time in May 1862 to Mary Jane Gross, daughter of Phillip Gross of Mount Pleasant, Sandusky County, OH. Mary Jane Gross was born 26 June 1837. From the History of Huron County by A.J. Baughman (1909), we discover that William Miller "invented the then famous cornhusk mattresses and seats, such as used in railway coaches" and that he made his fortune through careful control of his interests in this connection." He also served as township trustee and township treasurer for a number of years. They were Lutheran in faith and active in St. John's Lutheran Church in north Monroeville, off state route 99. William and Mary Jane Gross Miller had twelve children - Clara, Emma Isabelle, twins - John Robert and Rosa Cecilia, Rosa Almina, Cynthia, Flora Viola, Lydia, Lawrence, Chauncey and Frank. , . Clara Miller (3) married Gustave G. Horn. Emma Isabelle Miller (3) married Christain Strecker John Robert Miller (3) died young. Rosa Cecilia Miller (3) died young. Rosa Almina Miller (3) married Jacob Strecker Cynthia Miller (3) Flora Viola Miller (3) married John P. Mowry Lydia Miller (3) married Louis Stautzenberger. Lawrence Tino Miller (3) married Amanda Russell Chauncey Miller (3) married Louise Smith Frank Miller (3) The 17 September 1902 Sandusky Daily Register reports that William Miller Jr. died suddenly at his home at Sand Hill on 16 September. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery at Monroeville. Mary Jane Gross died the 5th of December 1906 from burns she received from a stove explosion. The Bellevue Gazette's 5th December 1906 edition provides an account of the explosion and information regarding her death.. She is buried at Riverside Cemetery. Tragic death of Mrs. Wm. Miller which occurred on Monday of Last week; Lawrence Miller the son of the dead women was in town this morning and from him learned the particular of the sad affair. He said that his mother was 71 years of age and a very active woman of her years. She was the widow of the late William Miller who died some four years ago. Mrs. Miller lived on the old homestead with her four unmarried sons and Mrs. Senft, an elder distant relative also made her home there. On Monday Mrs. Miller went to clean the stove with a liquid stove enamel containing benzine or some other violate substance. in some manner the brush she was used caught fire and she try to extinguish the blaze by dashing the brush into the cup containing the enamel. instantly there was an explosion and the blazing fluid ignited the clothing on the unfortunate woman and was soon converted into a torch and was enveloped in the blaze from head to foot. Mrs. Miller scream for help but there was no one in the house except Mrs. Senft who ran to her assistance and tried to tear off the blazing garment in her frantic effort to subdue the flames. Mrs. Senft. had her hands and wrist badly burned. She was unsuccessful in her efforts and almost all every article of clothing she worn by Mrs. Miller was burn off her entire body. The alarm was given and the sons who were at work on the farm arrived and Dr. Love of Bloomville hastily summoned. He did everything in his power to relieved the sufferings of the terribly burn woman who retained consciousness until almost the end. She linger in agony in the above name house when death mercifully relieved her from suffering pain. The maiden name of Mrs. Miller was Jane Gross and she was born and raised in York township in the vicinity of Mt. Pleasant. .After her marriage to Mr. Miller the family remove to Groton Township which since been her home. Mrs. Miller was the mother of nine children as follows -Mrs. G.G..Horn of Lyme township; Mrs. Christian Strecker; Mrs. Jacob Strecker of north of town; Mrs. John Mowry; Mrs. Louis Strautzenberger of Oxford township; Rudolph; Lawrence; Frank and Chauncey at home. She also leaves three step sons - William; Henry, and Charles Miller all living in the vicinity of the old homestead. Chauncey Miller and Louise Smith Family Chauncey Miller (3), son of William Miller Jr. and Mary Jane Gross, was born in 1879 in Groton Township, Erie County OH. On 04 March 1909 in Huron, Erie County, he married Louise N. Smith. She was the daughter of Henry Smith and Elizabeth Heuser of Sandusky, Erie County. Louise was born in 1886 in Perkins, Erie County and the twin of Louis Smith. Edna Smith Hahn was the other sibling of Louise and Louis. Chauncey and Louise Smith Miller had two children - Thelma and Kenneth. Katie Smith Schlessman, a relative and neighbor to the Miller's, was mid wife when Kenneth was born in 1915. Thelma Miller (4) married Ross Brooks. Kenneth William Miller (4) married Margaret Leonard. Chauncey and Louise had a farm on Paten Tract Road near Monroeville, a cousin, Cliff Hahn, fondly remembers Louise as "famous for her angel food cakes. It was an unusual cake because it was not chocolate." After their daughter, Thelma, married Ross Brooks, Chauncey and Louise sold their farm to Earl Sargent and moved into city of Sandusky. The farm is north of Pattern Tract, two houses after the railroad crossing. The Schlessman farm is located two houses before the railroad tracts. Earl Sargent purchased the farm. Chauncey died 21 March 1954 in Sandusky, Erie County. Louise Smith Miller was a diabetic and she died February 1955. Both are buried at Riverside Cemetery. Thelma Miller and Ross Brooks Family Thelma Miller (4), daughter of Chauncey and Louise Smith Miller, was born in 1910 in Erie County OH. She married Ross Brooks and they had 2 children - Jane and John Phillip. Jane Brooks (5) married Charlie Taylor. They had no children. John Phillip Brooks (5) was born in 1950 and died in a car accident in 1970. Thelma Miller Brooks died in 1975 and is buried at Grove Street Cemetery, New London Township, Huron County, OH. Ross Brooks passed away in 1980 is buried next to his wife. Their son, John Phillip, is also buried next to them. Kenneth Miller and Margaret Leonard Family Kenneth William Miller (4), son of Chauncey and Louise Smith Miller, was born 01 November 1915 in Oxford Township, Erie County, OH / Monroeville, Huron County, OH. Ken is named after Chauncey's father, William Miller. A cousin and childhood friend, Harriett Schlessman, remembers Ken as "always tinkering with mechanical items - always taking things part to see how they worked." Kenneth Miller received an engineering degree from OSU in 1940. He served in the army during the war. He was stationed in Alaska for period setting up radar stations. After WWII, Ken worked at Bell Labs in NYC. In Cleveland, Ken worked for a private law firm, Richey & Watts and received a law degree from Cleveland Marshall in 1953. He then worked for the Ohio Brass Company in Mansfield, OH as a patent attorney. He held approximately 10 patens. One was for the predecessor to the fax machine and another one was for driving lights for a car. Ken was also involved in the founding of a New Jersey corporation called Electronic Associates for analog computers. Per Margaret L. Miller, Ken chose not to work there. On 11 April 1950 in New York City, Ken Miller married Margaret Mary Leonard, daughter of Wallace Edward Leonard and Margaret Coale McSherry. Siblings of Margaret Leonard were Wallace Edward Leonard Jr.., Edward McSherry Leonard and Anne Elizabeth Leonard. Kenneth and Margaret Leonard Miller had 4 sons - Kenneth William; James Darrell; Lawrence Frederick and Marc Douglas. Kenneth William Miller II married Joan Ellen Pattillo . James Darrell Miller married Patricia Lillian Pattillo. Lawrence Frederick Miller married Mary Jane Tutelian. Marc Douglas Miller married Elizabeth Anne Garber. Per Harriett Schlessman, Earl Sargent, who purchased Chauncey Miller's farm, and Ken discussed selling the farm back to the Ken for his boys. On 12 May 1968, Ken Miller died of leukemia. He is buried at Riverside Cemetery at Monroeville. Margaret Leonard Miller is living in Mansfield, OH. KENNETH WILLIAM MILLER, II AND JOAN PATTILLO FAMILY Kenneth William Miller, II (5), son of Kenneth Miller and Margaret Leonard, was born 11 May 1951 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, OH. Ken is named after his father, but Ken Miller Sr. did not want his child to be known as junior, thus the Kenneth William Miller II rather than the standard junior designation. He married Joan Ellen Pattillo on 12 August 1972 in St. Margaret's Catholic Church, Rumford, Providence County RI. Joan Pattillo is the daughter of John Allen Pattillo and Elizabeth Lillian McLaughlin. Joan is Pat Pattillo's sister who married James Miller. Other Pattillo siblings are: Kathy Pattillo Packer, John Allen Pattillo Jr., Elizabeth Pattillo Bradley and Robert Pattillo. Kenneth and Joan Pattillo Miller have three children - Kenneth William Miller, III, Victoria and Christopher. Kenneth William Miller III (6) was born 20 February 1982 in Boston, Suffolk County, MA. Victoria Miller (6) was born 14 April 1984 in Winston-Salem, Forsythe County, NC. Christopher Miller (6) was born 17 January 1990 in Mansfield, Richland County, OH. James Darrell Miller and Patricia Pattillo Family James Darrell Miller (5), son of Kenneth Miller and Margaret Leonard, was born 23 June 1952 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, OH. Jim graduated in 1974 from Washington University in St. Louis, MO with a BA in biology. One summer he was attending Harvard summer school. His older brother, Ken, and his then fianc‚e, Joan Pattillo, arranged a blind date for Jim and Joan's sister Patricia Jim Miller married Patricia Lillian Pattillo on 18 August 1978 in Huntington, NY. Pat Pattillo is the daughter of John Allen Pattillo and Elizabeth Lillian McLaughlin. Other Pattillo siblings are: Kathy Pattillo Packer, John Allen Pattillo Jr., Elizabeth Pattillo Bradley and Robert Pattillo. Jim and Pat Pattillo Miller have two children - James Darrell Jr. and Michelle Lillian. James Darrell Miller Jr., nickname JD (6) was born on 10 January 1984 in Mansfield, Richland County OH. Michelle Lillian Miller (6) was born 24 November 1985 in Mansfield. Lawrence Frederick Miller and May Jane Tutelian Family Lawrence Frederick Miller (5), son of Kenneth Miller and Margaret Leonard, was born 21 March 1956 in Mansfield, Richland County OH. Lawrence Miller was named after his Uncle Lawrence T. Miller. His middle name is for the town of Frederick Maryland where his mother, Margaret's family is from. Lawrence Miller married Mary Jane (M.J.) Tutelian on 09 April 1988 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA at Old Swede's Church. She is the daughter of Stephen Tutelian and Louise Donohoe. Mary Jane is the twin of Louise Tutelian Morgenstern and has another sibling, Howard Tutelian. Larry and M.J. Tutelian Miller have two sons - Stephen Lawrence and Andrew McSherry. Stephen Lawrence Miller (6) was born 30 August 1992 in Dayton, Montgomery County, OH. Andrew McSherry Miller (6) was born 09 March 1995 in Dayton, Montgomery County, OH. Marc Douglas Miller and Elizabeth Anne Garber Family Marc Douglas Miller (5), son of Kenneth Miller and Margaret Leonard, was born 30 October 1963 in Mansfield, Richland County, OH. He married Elizabeth (Liz) Anne Garber on 26 December 1986 in St. Bernard's Church, Akron, Summit County, OH. She is the daughter of Robert Edward Garber and Agnes Stephanie Gnapp of Montgomery County, PA. Elizabeth's only living sibling is Robert Samuel Garber, an older brother, Robert Edward Garber, Jr.. died shortly after his birth in 1958. Marc and Elizabeth Garber Miller have one son - Samuel McSherry Miller. Samuel McSherry Miller (6) was born 11 December 1995 in Mansfield, Richland County, OH. Lawrence Tino Miller and Amanda Elizabeth Russell Family Lawrence Tino Miller (3), son of William Miller Jr. and Mary Jane Gross, was born on 16 June 1875 in Groton Township, Erie County. On 30 September 1909 in Erie County, Lawrence Miller married Amanda Elizabeth Russell. Amanda was born on 14 May 1891. She was the daughter of Philip Russell and Annie Kreger. The Russell's farm was next to the Miller farm in Groton Township. In 1913, Lawrence Miller remodeled father's home in Groton township. Lawrence and Amanda Russell Miller had 5 children - Loretta Anna Jane Miller, Delbert William, Wayne Russell, Lewis Donald and Paul Charles. Loretta Anna Jane Miller (4) married Linus M Dideon. Delbert William Miller (4) married Helen Henrick. Wayne Russell Miller (4) married Ruth Darlene Warner. Lewis Donald Miller (4) married Betty Brackley. Paul Charles Miller (4) married Mary Ellen Brownsworth. Lewis Donald Miller and his wife Betty Brackley live on the same farm on route 99. They are in possession of William Miller JR's family bible. Clara L. Miller and Gustave G. Horn Family Clara L Miller (3), daughter of William Miller Jr. and Mary Jane Gross, was born on 04 February 1862 in Ridgefield, Huron County. On 18 January 1883, Clara Miller married Gustave G. Horn in Erie County. Gustave was born in 1858 in Bellevue, Sandusky County. He was the son of Phillip Horn and Catherine Seel/Steel. On 28 February 1884, Emma Miller married Christain Strecker in Erie County. Christain Strecker was born in 1862 in Bellevue, Huron County. Christain Strecker was the brother of Jacob Strecker who married Emma's sister, Rosa. Christain and Emma Strecker's family is unknown at this time. Christain Strecker died in 1925 and Emma's death date is not known. Both are buried at Bellevue Cemetery, Lyme Township, Huron County. Rosa Almina Miller and Jacob Strecker Family Rosa Almina Miller (3), daughter of William Miller Jr. and Mary Jane Gross, was born on 02 February 1867 in Groton Township, Erie County. On 17 May 1888, Rosa Miller married Jacob Strecker in Erie County. Jacob Strecker was born in 1863 in Bellevue. Jacob was the brother of Christain Strecker who married Rosa's sister Emma. Jacob and Rosa Strecker had the following children - Ralph J and Norma M. Ralph was born in 1896 and died in 1918. Norma was born 01 August 1899 and died 08 February 1904. Jacob Strecker died in 1936 and Rosa Strecker died in 1944. Both children and parents are buried at Bellevue Cemetery, Lyme Township, Huron County. John Edward and Rosa Cecilia Miller - Twins John Edward and Rosa Cecilia Miller (3), twin son and daughter of William Miller Jr. and Mary Jane Gross, were born 25 May 1865 in Ridgefield, Huron County. Rosa Cecilia died on 23 August 1865 and John Edward followed two days later. Unknown burial places for these children. All information for them is from the family bible. John Rudolph Miller John Rudolph Miller (3), son of William Miller Jr. and Mary Jane Gross, was born on 29 December 1869 in Groton Township, Erie County. He died in 1906 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery at Monroeville. His tombstone displays the name Rudolph Miller. Nothing else is known about this branch of the family tree. Florance (Flora) Viola Miller and John P. Mowry Family Florance (Flora) Viola Miller (3), daughter of William Miller Jr. and Mary Jane Gross, was born on 11 January 1872 in Groton Township. On 10 July 1897, Flora Miller married John P. Mowry in Erie County. John Mowry was on 17 February 1870 in Prout, Oscar Township, Erie County. John P. Mowry was the son of John Mowry and Louisa Wilhelmine Leber. The father was born in Adelweil, Switzerland on 28 June 1844, while his mother was born on 1845 and a native of Nassau, Germany. The Mowry family first settled in Seneca County OH. John P Mowry's siblings were Charles, Louise, Carrie, Adolph, Edward. Charles Mowry born 30 June 1868 married Mimmie Ebert. John Mowry died on 23 February 1959 and Flora Miller Mowry died 15 November 1933. The following children died young and are buried with their parents in St John's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Oxford Township, Erie County. Vietta Mowry born 26 January 1908 and died 25 June 1917 Melvin Mowry born 31 August 1899 and died 19 June 1913 Florence Mowry died in 1914. Lydia Miller and Louis Stautzenberger Family Lydia Miller (3), daughter of William Miller Jr. and Mary Jane Gross, was born in 1874 in Groton Township. On 17 June 1899, Lydia Miller married Louis Stautzenberger in Erie County. He was born on 14 December 1874 in Prout, Sandusky County as Ludwig Julius Stautzenberger. He was the son of Henry (Heinrich) Stautzenberger and Magdalena Lathaues/Lotthamer. Henry Stautzenberger was a native of Doersdorf, Nassau, German and born in 21 November 1830. In September 1858 he married Magdalena Lathaues/Lotthamer in Erie County. The Stautzenberger family consisted of 10 children. Many did not live through infancy. These children include - Sophia Magdalena; Heinrich; Clara; Wilhelm Eberhardt and Wilhelm Jacoborn. They are buried with their parents in St John's Cemetery in Oxford Township, Erie County. Known surviving children are: Johanna Elizabeth Stautzenberger married William Loos. Magdalena Margaretha Stautzenberger married Jacob Feiden. Phillip Jacob Stautzenberger Maria Catharina Stautzenberger married Herman Nottke Louis Stautzenberger and Lydia Miller Stautzenberger had a family of 4 children - Louis Henry; Ruth; Evelyn and Helen. Ruth F Stautzenberger (4) married Mr. Maskow of Westlake OH. Evelyn Stautzenberger (4) married Mr. Kromer of Sandusky, Erie County. Helen Stautzenberger (4) married Mr. Fries of Columbus, Franklin County, OH. Their son, Louis Henry Stautzenberger , was born 09 July 1913 and died 24 March 1914. He is buried with his parents in St John's Cemetery in Oxford Township, Erie County. Louis Stautzenberger died on 22 October 1955 in Sandusky, Erie County. His wife, Lydia died before him, but the exact date is not known. Frank Miller Frank Miller (3), son of William Miller Jr. and Mary Jane Gross, was born in Groton Township, Erie County. He was born around 1889 and died between 1902 and 1916. Chapter 2 SMITH & LEIDORFF FAMILY GENEALOGY John Smith and Anna Elizabeth Leidorff Family John Smith (1), also known as Johann Schmidt, was born in 14 June 1826 in northern Germany. Per Erma Lucht, John Smith and his older brother, Adam Smith came to America in 1838. The rest of the family died in Germany from an apparent epidemic. Adam Smith settled in Norwalk, Huron County and opened the Norwalk Monumental Works. In 1853, John Smith married Anna Elizabeth Leidorff. She was born on 11 July 1834 in Hesse- Cassel, Germany. She was the daughter of Henry (Henrick) and Elizabeth Leidorff. The Liedorf or Leidorff family consisted of Henry and Elizabeth and 6 children. Anna Elizabeth had 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Only the brother's names are known - Sebastian (born 06 October 1840) and Henry John Leidorff (born 1846). The Leidorff family came over in 1847 after Elizabeth's death and settled in the city of Sandusky. Anna Elizabeth's brother, Sebastain, enlisted in 1863 in Company A, Third Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Cavalry and re-enlisted until Aug 4 1865. John and Anna Elizabeth were members of St John's Lutheran Church in Sandusky (right on route 250). The stained glass windows in the church have names of members who helped rebuild after a fire. Johannes Schmidt and wife Elizabeth Schmidt are listed in one of these windows. John and Anna Elizabeth had 7 children - Henry, Andrew and John Jr., Katie, Philip, Elizabeth and Mary. Henry Smith (2) married Elizabeth Heuser Andrew Smith (2) never married. John Smith Jr. (2) married Louisa Arnold Katie or Katherine Smith (2) married Nickolas Schlessman. Philip Smith (2) married Phoebe Arnold Elizabeth Smith (2) married Herman Ohly Mary Smith (2) married Henry Fry. Henry Smith and Elizabeth Heuser Family Henry Smith (2), son of John Smith and Elizabeth Leidorff, was born 06 October 1859. He married Elizabeth Heuser in Erie County OH. Check the date of this marriage. She was born in 1868 to John Peter Heuser and his wife Maria Catharina Schmiedel. John Peter Heuser was born 28 June 1823 in Berghausen Amt Nastatten, Province Prussia, Germany. He died on 07 December 1901 and is buried at St John United Church of Christ Cemetery, Erie County, OH. Siblings of Elizabeth Heuser were Peter Wilhelm Heuser and Maria Wilhelmenia Heuser. Both died very young are buried with their father. Henry Smith and Elizabeth Heuser had three children - twins - Louis and Louis and another daughter Edna Clara Smith. Louis Smith (3) never married. Louise Smith (3) married Chauncey Miller. Edna Smith (3) married Conrad Carl Hahn. Henry Smith died on 20 November 1933 in Erie County. He is buried at Union Corner's Lutheran Church, Erie County, OH (right off route 250). This church is also known as St John's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Elizabeth Heuser Smith died in 1898 and is also buried at St John's. Louis Smith Louis Smith (3), son of Henry Smith and Elizabeth Heuser, was born in 1886 in Perkins, Erie County. He is the twin of Louise. Clifford Han remembers that Louis could tell great jokes - "one after another" and played the accordion and piano. He was a thresherman by occupation. Louise Smith and Chauncey Miller Family Louise Smith (3), daughter of Henry Smith and Elizabeth Heuser, was born in 1886 in Milan, Huron County. She is the twin of Louis. On 04 March 1909 in Huron, Erie County, OH, Louise Smith married Chauncey Miller. He was the son of William Miller Jr. and Mary Jane Gross. Chauncey and Louise Smith Miller had two children - Thelma and Kenneth. Thelma Miller (4) married Ross Brooks. Kenneth William Miller (4) married Margaret Leonard.
