He studied elementary education at Woodville Academy and Normal in Woodville, Sandusky County, Ohio. His first position as a teacher was at Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky, Erie County, Ohio, where he began teaching in 1900. In 1904, Gustav married Ida Augusta BAUM, daughter of Charles F. BAUM and Ida Rosa LEHNERT. The couple left Sandusky, Erie County, in 1905, but remained in Ohio until 1924. They had four children, all of whom were born in Ohio. Gustav died in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, on September 9, 1963.] [Among Gustav's personal papers is a carefully-handwritten list of children, believed to identify some of his students at Zion Lutheran Church during 1900-1905. According to Gustav's granddaughter, Ellen Rose ALLWARDT FEHR, the list is written in Gustav's own hand. It is currently in the possession of Gustav's great-granddaughter, Dawn Rose FEHR SIMPSON, whose husband, Wm. Scott SIMPSON, Sr., prepared this transcription.] [The column headings in this transcription are from the original list. The X's in the third column represent small checkmarks in the handwritten list. The meaning of the checkmarks is not known. A few difficulties with the handwriting were resolved by reference to the 1900 census for Erie County, Ohio.] ---------- Child's Name When born Age Father's Name Residence 1) Bluhm, Anna Mar. 1, 1891 x Aug.
