Mr. Showers was born in Fairfield county, April 25th, 1818; and was therefore sixty-five years and nineteen days old. At an early age he moved with his father to the town of Etna, where he learned the wagon maker's trade, which he pursued, in connection with farming to the time of his death. Twice the citizens of Etna tp. expressed their confidence in his wisdom and integrity by electing him to the office of Justice of the Peace, and for many years he has been an elder in his adopeted church, and superintendent of its Sunday School. Also an active and influential member of the I.O.O.F. Mr Showers was a man of a kind and genial disposition; a good neighbor, and kind husband and father, and zealous in the promotion of every good work. While no man can be said to be indispensible to a community, yet his loss will be long and sincerely mourned by those who best knew him, and among whom his influence was espectially felt. D.M.K.
