BILLINGHURST, ONE OF THE OLDEST ODD FELLOWS IN THE STATE OF OHIO Passes Peacefully Away to his Eternal Reward After a Model Life – Was Chorister in the Presbyterian Church Fifty Years — Odd Fellow Will Conduct Funeral Sunday Afternoon. Mr. T. E. Billinghurst, the veteran sewing machine agent, passed peacefully away Saturday morning at two o’clock of a complication of diseases due to his 85 years of age, at his home on North Broad street. He was born in Athens November 6th, 1824, and came with his parents to Lancaster in 1834. He was united in marriage 61 years ago to Miss Jane McElroy near North Berne to which union were born three sons and two daughters and only one daughter, Miss Hattie Billinghurst, survives to mourn. Mr. Billinghurst was recognized as one of the oldest and most enthusiastic Odd Fellows in the state. He joined Charity Lodge No. 7, in Lancaster, December, 18th, 1847. Ten years later he joined Hock-Hocking Encampment No. 28. In 1850 at the solicitation of his friend Samuel Sturgeon (brother of the late Thomas Sturgeon) who had located at Perrysville, Ind., and founded a Charity Lodge of Odd Fellows at that place, he moved to Perrysville and transferred his membership to the lodge at that place and remained a member there five years. He returned to Lancaster in 1855 and again joined the Lancaster lodge, remaining a devoted member ill his death. He passed through the chairs of the lodge in 1883 to 1885m in later years becoming a Past Noble Grand. He was most accurate and painstaking in his work in the order having never missed a meeting while filling the office of Vice and Noble Grand, He was a most faithful worker and filled every position of any importance in the lodge and continued as Conductor for 22 years. For the last four years he was unable to attend regularly on account of advancing age. Mr. Billinghurst was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church an served as choirator of the church for more than fifty years and was the oldest member of the church in the city in point of service, having been a member for 63 years. The funeral will be conducted under the auspices of the Odd Fellows and by special request of the lodge. Miss Billinghurst consented to have the obsequies conducted Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Presbyterian church. Rev. Leith, the pastor will deliver the discourse and interment will take place at Forest Rose cemetery. Rev. H. B. Lewis of the M. E. church will assist at the services. The Odd Follows and Daughters of Rebekah will attend in a body and the Mechanics band will furnish the music.
