Submitted to the Ohio Part of the USGenWeb by Mary Lachman Joseph Hidy Joseph Hidy was born on January 13,1783 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of John and Christina Trexler Hidy. In 1803 Joseph removed to Ross County, Ohio, where he married his first wife, Elizabeth Kious. She died that same year. Two years after Elizabeth's death, he married Sarah Shepherd. She bore him two children, Jacob and Isaac. The family then removed to Fayette County, Ohio. On February 12, 1812 they settled on a farm, on the waters of Paint Creek in Jefferson Township. Sarah died two years later, in February of 1814. Joseph married a third time. Mary Carr, his third wife, was the daughter of Martin and Elizabeth Davis Carr. She was born on December 13, 1795 in Hardy County, Virginia. Joseph and Mary became the parents of ten children, Joseph, Humphrey, Sidney, Margaret, Clarissa, Olivia, Urban, Volney, Mary and Maria Louisa. All the children married and became respected members of the community. Joseph Hidy died on December 6, 1878 and was laid to rest in the Hidy Cemetery near his homestead.
