Milan L Smith was born near Fincastle, WV, 20 Feb 1810, to Mathias and 
Christina (Myers) Smith, also natives of WV.  The maternal randfather was born 
in England and was in the Revolutionary War and was an early settler of 
Virginia.  The father of our subject came to Fayette County, Ohio, in 1814.  He 
died in 1821 at the age of 39.  He was the father of four sons and three 
daughters. 
Our subject is the oldest living child of his family and came to this county at 
ten years of age.  In March 1827, he was married to Miss Mahala Armstrong  
Seven children were born to this couple, four sons and three daughters.  Mrs 
Smith died in July, 1879, and Mr Smith was again married, this time to Margaret 
Custer.
