He was married to Jane Thompson, in Fayette County, Ohio, by whom he had five children, three of whom are living, and who are all well known to the most of the citizens of the west part of the county. His first wife, after having shared with him the hardships and privations of frontier life for thirteen years died in 1846. He was again married to Abigail Smith, by whom he had five children of whom four are living. He died August 26, 1879, at the age of 72 years.
