H. WHELPLEY DIES SUDDENLY Well Known Mand Director Summoned Death, coming suddenly just after he left his home at 314 North Hinde street at 7:15 Monday morning, claimed the life of James H. Whelpley, 58, well known musician and band leader who had been associated with carious bands in this city since he entered the "Kid's Band" at the age of 8 years, 50 years ago. A heart ailment was responsible for his death. Mr. Whelpley, who had been in poor health for a number of years, not only had been prominent in musical circles since he was a boy of 8 and played the cornet in the "Kid's Band," but had been a mail clerk at the Washington C. H. Postoffice for 25 years. For many years he directed the Washington Whelpley Band, the services of which were in much demand in this community and adjacent points. He was a member of the M. E. Church in this city, The Elks, Lodge, Masons, and Rotary Club, and had been peanist for the Potarians since the club was formed here. For many years his services as a pianist were in much demand at theatres, lodges and various organizations in the community, and he also organized and directed an orchestra for sometime. His wife preceded him in death 23 years ago. Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Ralph Gage and Mrs. Andrew Loudner, both of this city. Also four grandchildren and one brother, George Whelpley, of Columbus. Of a kindly disposition and congenial with everyone, he leaves a host of friends who are deeply grieved over his death. The body was taken to the Klever Funeral Home and prepared for burial, and returned to the home in Hinde street at 5:00 o'clock Monday evening. Funeral Services will be held at the Klever Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, and the internment will be made in the Washington cemetary. Additional Comments: The surviving brother was actually EDWIN M WHELPLEY of Columbus, Ohio.
