It may or may not be related to John Gray. Following is the information from this 1857 Bible. 1846 Bible, Buffalo: Published by Phinney & Co. New York: Ivison & Phinney. 1857. BACKGROUND The 1873 Cambridge Paragraph Bible included an introduction by F.H.A. Scrivener which identified 246 New Testament printing variants from the KJV 1611 edition to date. This 1857 Bible still shows the original 1611 wording in 19 verses instead of the current and accepted wording. Following are the verses where the first reading is the 1611, the second reading is the change and the date of change.: 1) Matthew 26:39 further, farther, 176; 26:75 the words of Jesus, the word of Jesus, 1762; 27:52 bodies of saints, bodies of the saints, 1762, 2) Mark 10:46 high ways side, high-way side, 1629 3) Luke 2:25,34 Simeon, Symeon; 19:9 the son of Abraham, a son of Abraham, 1762 4) Acts 7:11; 13:19 Chanaan, Canaan; 15:14 Simeon, Symeon; 19:19 also of them, of them also, 1769; 25:23 was entered, were entered 5) Romans 4:19 an hundred year, an hundred years, 1630 [this Bible has a hundred years; 16:10 Appelles, Apelles, 1616. 6) Philippians 4:6 request, requests, 1629 7) Colossians 1:21 sometimes, sometime, 1629 8) Revelation 18:12 Thine, thune, 1629 [this Bible has thyine]; 21:20 Chrysolie, chrysolyte, 1762 9) Colophon FINIS, THE END, 1762 LAYOUT OF THE BIBLE Pages are 11" X 9" and 2" thick. The first page is blank on both sides. The second page is blank on the front and on the back is a picture: Saul Presenting his Daughter to David. The Title Page [page 1]: The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments: together with The Apocrypha: Translated out of the original tongues, and with the former translations diligently compared and revised with Canne's Marginal Notes and References to which are added an Index; an Alphabetical Table of all the names in the Old and New Testaments, with their significations, tables of scripture weights, measures, and coins, &c.. The Canne's Note are identical to the H Miller, Columbus Bible which isn't dated. Page two includes the names and order of all the books of the Old and New Testaments, and of the Apocrypha, with the number of their chapters. Page three is "To The Reader" which is John Witherspoons "To The Reader" in the Isaac Collins Bible of 1790. His original said "...This translation was first published A.D. 1610... never been superseded by any other for one hundred eighty years..." which indicates a print date of 1790. This Bible changed the one hundred years to two hundred years which would seem to indicate a print date of 1830 for this 1857 Bible. It was either typset from the 1830 original or the same plates or signatures were used for this publication. Pages four through eight contain The Contents of the books of the Old and New Testaments. An example of The Content descriptions are: Creation; Formation of man, The fall, Death of Abel, Generations of Abel for the first 5 chapters of Genesis. Their is a description for all chapters in all of the books of the Bible. The descriptions are exactly the same as the H Miller, Columbus Bible with no print date and a different size. Page nine begins with Genesis 1:1. The Signature's are 16-pages. These signature markings are printed on the first page of each 16-page signature. The Old Testament includes the letters A to Z minus the J and 2A to 2L minus the 2J. A total of 36 signatures times 16-pages each shows the OT ending on page 576. After page 32 and before page 33 is a picture: Departure of Hagar. At page 53 is a small newspaper article. After page 64 and before page 65 is a picture: The Finding of Moses. Page 145 shows signature marking of K where the J would normally appear. The markings go from I on page 129 to L on page 161. The J is skipped.
