He served as a private, ensign, 2nd lieutenant and 1st lieutenant in Col. Daniel Brodheat's 8th Pennsylvania regiment. He was with General Washington during the bitter winter at Valley Forge. He was wounded and discharged in 1779. He reenlisted and transferred to the frontiers of Pennsylvania, Ohio and Kentucky and was with General Clark on some raids of Shawnee towns. After his discharge he moved form Pennsylvania to Mason County Kentucky with his family. Since he had seen the Ohio territory while serving under General Clark and like it so much, he and other married children of his family located on a tract of land in Champaign County, Ohio in 1805. The portion of Champaign County in which he settled later became Clark County. A year later he was given a grant of land for his military service in Dublin, Franklin County, Ohio. The land was located on the east bank of the Sciota River. He lived there until his death in 1807. He and his wife were interred in the Deardorff Cemetery near Dublin, Ohio. The bodies were moved in later years and the location is unknown. James E. Neer *************OH-FOOTSEPS Mailing List***************************
