  Grove City Cemetery Survey Project

The Grove City Cemetery is located in the City of Grove City, Jackson      
Township, Franklin County, Ohio. It was established in 1906 and is an      
active cemetery containing more than 2,000 tombstones and 3,400 graves.    
It is maintained in excellent condition by the Grove City Cemetery         
Association, 3605 Grove City Road, Grove City, OH 43123, Phone: (614)

This Tombstone Survey was planned and managed by Marshall Jividen, Grove   
City, Ohio as his Eagle Scout Service Project, the final requirement       
among the many personal accomplishments needed to earn the Boy Scouts of   
America Eagle badge, the highest rank in Scouting.                         
                                                                           
The Grove City Cemetery is the largest and oldest among those in the       
City of Grove City and, in cooperation with the Grove City Cemetery        
Association, the information appearing on every tombstone was              
transcribed and placed into a database. Field work for the project took    
place on November 23 and 30, 2003. This work is a permanent record made    
before time and weather inevitably make these monument inscriptions        
illegible. Besides updating the files of the Association, it is being      
made available to historical researchers and the general public. Copies    
of the final database report on CD were presented to the City of Grove     
City, the local public library and the area historical society. The        
report on CD and in a 2150-page printed report was provided to the Grove   
City Cemetery Association. Although no missing, damaged or illegible       
veterans? markers were found, a goal of the project was to inform the VA   
marker Program of the United States Veterans Administration about any      
markers requiring attention.                                               
                                                                           
The dataset provided to the Tombstone Project and shown on this site is    
essentially the report's index. Grave marker design, tombstone             
condition, full inscriptions and other information is not included here    
but is available in the complete reports.                                  
                                                                           
THIS WAS A BIG PROJECT! There are more than 2100 pages in the final        
Tombstone Survey Report recording the names of nearly 3400 people          
interned in the cemetery. Marshall Jividen was awarded the Boy Scout       
rank of Eagle Scout on June 6, 2004.
