D. Freeman letters Light blue envelope measuring 3¼” x 5½” opening located on longest edge. Folded upper edge contains adhesive lip and embossed design at center of opening flap on back side. Envelope has light ink script inscription, horizontally across the front side; “Mr G Freeman Columbus Ohio” Content of envelope includes one sheet of white paper, lightly ruled with blue lines, spaced (5/16” apart, on the side containing text), when opened up, measuring 9 1/8” x 11”. This sheet of paper is folded in half on it’s longest side making it 5½” x 9 1/8” containing cursive text written in black ink with an embossed through two layers at the top left corner, near the center fold. The oval embossed impression measures about 5/8” x 7/8” with the words “Kent Mills” above outline of two sail ships, and the words “Packet Note”, below the ships. This half folded letter is again folded into three evenly divided sections. The paper is folded one third down from top and one third up from bottom, covering the text and resulting in a folded letter measuring 5½” x 3¼”. The text written on the half sheet: “Hall of Reprs. Columbus O., April 5, 1856 This is to certify, that Mr George Freeman has been acting in the capacity of a Messenger Boy, in the House of Representatives, during the present Session of the Legislature of Ohio. That he has steadily been found in his place, diligent in his calling, & has received the respect of the Members as a person of good business habits & strict integrity. S. E. Blakeslee. Member from Paulding, Defiance & Williams Co’s” [The following written in a darker ink (different hand) below the previous inscription.
