The Hannibal Journal May 13, 1853
The trial of Martha Washington sonspirators, commenced at Columbus on the 8th, 
before Judge McLean; all the prisoners were present except Nicholson and 
Stevens.  The former forfeited his recognizance of $6000.  The office of the 
District Attorney was burglariously entered at Columbus, and several papers 
connected with this case stolen.  The room of Mr. Barton, principal 
prosecuting witness, at the Neil House, was also entered and his trunk 
ransacked.
