Inactive Location: Claridon-Troy Rd. is a north-south road until it changes to east-west about half-way between Chardon-Windsor Rd. and Rt. 608. The obelisk is on the curve. This was the first burying ground in Hambden. By 1925, fourteen tombstones had been removed and stored at the mausoleum in the Township Cemetery. At first, it was thought that there had been forty-one burials. Research proved that sixteen were actually buried in the Township Cemetery. In 1973, an obelisk was erected and engraved with names of those who could be identified. Sections and lots have not been identified for those marked "Unknown". Codes for Military Service (Vet.) Number codes were assigned for the various wars as follows: 01 Revolutionary War: 1776-1783 10 War of 1812: 1812-1815 16 Mexican War: 1846-1848 19 Civil War: 1861-1865 25 War with Spain: 1898 31 World War I: 6 Apr 1917-11 Nov 1918 41 World War II: 7 Dec 1941-31 Dec 1945 50 Korean War: 25 Jun 1950-31 Jan 1955 61 Vietnam: 22 Dec 1961-7 May 1975 89 Panama Action: 20 Dec 1989-31 Jan 1990 90 Persian Gulf: 1990-1991 NO None or Unknown PT Military Service not in the time of War Numbers 1 through 31 were assigned by an Official Government Project of the 1930s when cemeteries were surveyed and mapped to locate veterans. Information in parentheses came from other sources; i.e., cr & sr = Clerk’s/Sexton’s Record; c = cremains; (Map), the name appears on the map as owned or reserved. An entry such as: SMITH John ( ) means that there is no stone; at least there wasn’t when the record was compiled. *********************************************************************** ============================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================== SURNAME First Name Twp./Cemetery Sec.
