State Ave., Middlefield, OH, 44062; Phone (440) 632-5095 Village Cemetery, (16094 E. High St./Rt. 87) Active Location: on the north side of Rt. 87, about ½ mile east of the intersection of Rts. 87 & 608. The cemetery is divided into blocks east and west of the center driveway. Each side is divided into rows, by number, and lots, by letter. Most lots on the west side have eight graves. Lots on the east side have either eight or ten graves. Rows go from 10 through 52 on the west and 10 through 51 on the east. Rows 40 (East) and 41 (West) begin the new section; most burials take place in those rows. Young-Gates Cemetery, (16048 Old State Road) Inactive Location: behind a private residence, which is about ½ mile southeast of the intersection of Rts. 528 and 608, just past where Adams Road deadends on 608. The cemetery cannot be seen from the road as it is in a wooded area some 800' behind the house. Swine Creek Reservation Location: on land belonging to the Geauga County Park District encompassing an area west of Hayes Road and between Swine Creek and Bridge Roads. There is only one stone; ask a Park Ranger to show you the location. Sections and lots have not been identified for those marked "Unknown". Codes for Military Service (Vet.) Number codes were assigned for the various wars as follows: 01 Revolutionary War: 1776-1783 10 War of 1812: 1812-1815 16 Mexican War: 1846-1848 19 Civil War: 1861-1865 25 War with Spain: 1898 31 World War I: 6 Apr 1917-11 Nov 1918 41 World War II: 7 Dec 1941-31 Dec 1945 50 Korean War: 25 Jun 1950-31 Jan 1955 61 Vietnam: 22 Dec 1961-7 May 1975 89 Panama Action: 20 Dec 1989-31 Jan 1990 90 Persian Gulf: 1990-1991 NO None or Unknown PT Military Service not in the time of War Numbers 1 through 31 were assigned by an Official Government Project of the 1930s when cemeteries were surveyed and mapped to locate veterans. Information in parentheses came from other sources; i.e., cr & sr = Clerk’s/Sexton’s Record; c = cremains; (Map), the name appears on the map as owned or reserved. An entry such as: SMITH John ( ) means that there is no stone; at least there wasn’t when the record was compiled. *********************************************************************** ========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================== SURNAME First Name Twp./Cemetery Sec.
