This is my only apology for the following and some other sketches that I have introduced. I enlisted in April 1861; helped organize Co H 2nd Wisconsin Infantry. Was wounded and taken prisoner at first Bull Run Battle. In prison ten and a half months in Libby Prison and at Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Salisbury, NC. In parole camp two moths at St. Louis, MO. Exchanged and returned to the front, was again wounded and taken prisoner at first day at Gettysburg, PA. was so severely wounded that I could not be shipped south, and was paroled and left behind. On account of my wounds, was transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps or "Invalid Corps" where I finished my three years and was discharged June 11, 1864. I went to Missouria and joined in the chase after Gen'l Sterling Price and was at the killing of the celebrated guerilla and bushwhacker 'Bill Anderson.' In 1866 I returned to Washington, DC and was married. In regards to genealogy "A few will appreciate my labors, but many many more will deem it time and labor wasted. 38 xii.
