Jacob's father and grandfather, William and Alexander Cochran were the only two Cochrans in 1821 on the Military lands of Guernsey County, Ohio and most of their sons did serve in the Civil War before their westward migration many years later. Jacob's mother was Martha Henderson and her mother was Nancy Ann Clendenning.
