Carothers (born September 26, 1816 Ireland, died July 16, 1893 Guernsey, Ohio) and Sarah Dales (born May 20, 1820 Ireland, died January 27, 1903 Guernsey, Ohio). His parents had emigrated from Ireland to Guernsey, Ohio about 1846. Before the family had moved to Ireland, they were originally from Wales. George was the 4th of 12 children. His siblings were: John, William Dales, John II, George Patterson, Margaret Jane, James, Agnes E, Andrew Garfield, Samuel M, Sarah Ann, Martha and Mary. George Patterson Carothers can be found in the 1850 census living at Monroe, Guernsey, Ohio: William Carothers 33, Sarah Carothers 27, William Carothers 7, Jno (John) Carothers 5, George P Carothers 2. (Note: the original census taker had bad penmanship and thus the names were hard to decipher.) George next found in the 1860 and 1880 censuses living at Kimbolton, Liberty, Guernsey, Ohio: 1860: William Carothers 43, Sarah Carothers 49, William D Carothers 16, John Carothers 14, George Carothers 12, Margaret J Carothers 9, Agnes Carothers 7, Andrew Carothers 3, James Carothers 5. 1880: George P. Carothers 29, Emma Carothers 23, Sarah E. Carothers 4, John H. Carothers 3, James D. Carothers 1, Rocilla (Rosella) J. Carothers 3 months. It is possible that George fought in the Civil War as he would have been the age to be eligible in the 1860's but I can't find 100% proof that he did enlist. Cannot find him in the 1870 census. George married Emma Ingram on November 12, 1874 at Kimbolton, Guernsey, Ohio.
