Carothers and Sarah Dales. She was the last of 12 children. Her older siblings were: John, William Dales, John II, George Patterson, Margaret Jane, James, Agnes E., Andrew Garfield, Samuel M., Sarah Ann and Martha. Mary can be found in the 1880 census living with her parents at Knox, Guernsey, Ohio: Wm. Crothers 63, Sarah Crothers 59, Agness Crothers 24, James Crothers 27, Samuel Crothers 19, Sarah Crothers 16, Mary D. Crothers 11. Believe Mary Dales Carothers married about 1886 to William F. Thompson. The couple had 5 sons: Albert C (born July 1, 1887 Oxford, Tuscarawas, Ohio); George Emory (born May 1, 1889 Oxford, Tuscarawas, Ohio, died June 9, 1941 Euclid, Cuyahoga, Ohio); William Ray (born September 3, 1896 Oxford, Tuscarawas, Ohio, died June 7, 1951 Columbus, Franklin, Ohio); Thomas Earl (born November 10, 1898 Oxford, Tuscarawas, Ohio) and John L (born 1906 Oxford, Tuscarawas, Ohio). Family found in the 1900, 1910, 1920 censuses living at Oxford, Tuscarawas, Ohio: 1900: William working as a huxter; William Thompson age 40 ; Mary B 31; Albert C 12 born July 1887; George E 10 born May 1889; William R 3 born September 1896, Thomas E 1 born November 1899 (all boys born at Ohio). Mary was born in Ohio October 1869, she has had 4 children, her parents were from Ireland. 1910: William Thompson 50, Mary D Thompson 42, Ray Thompson 13, Earl Thompson 11, John Thompson 4. 1920: William Thompson 59, Mary D Thompson 51, Emery George Emery 29 (widowed), Earl Thompson 21, John L Thompson 14. Mary died July 12, 1941 at home at Newcomerstown, Tuscarawas, Ohio. She was buried July 14,1941 at West Lawn Cemetery there. Obituary from the Coshocton Tribune: Saturday, July 12, 1941: "Mrs. Mary Thompson Dies Early Today at Newcomerstown" - Mrs. Mary Dale (Carothers) Thompson 72, died at 2:30 a.m. today at her home on Railroad St., Newcomerstown, Ohio, after several years of illness with complications. Mary was born October 18, 1869 near Kimbolton, Ohio, the daughter of William and Sarah Carruthers. She moved to Newcomerstown 53 years ago from Plainfield. Her husband, William Thompson, died in 1929 and a son, Emory, died a month ago in the CCC Camp near Cleveland, Ohio. Surviving are four sons: Clarence, Earl and John all of Newcomerstown and Ray of Columbus, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Frank Hosick of Newark, Ohio. The funeral will be held at the home on Monday at 2 p.m., the Reverand Harold Lee in charge. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery. Additional Comments: Censuses transcribed as found, obvious spelling errors were not corrected. Mary was found as Mary H, Mary B but the correct name was Mary Dales. Also surname found as Carothers, Crothers, Carruthers, all are correct, most commonly used is Carothers.
