He emigrated 1847 to Guernsey ​County, Ohio with his parents, the sixth of seven children. His siblings were: John, William L., Martha Ann, George, Margaret and John Peasley Carothers. Found Samuel in the 1850 census living on the farm at Bird's Run, Liberty, Guernsey, Ohio with his parents: John Crothers 68, Agness Crothers 68, George Crothers 28, Bille (should be Belle) Crothers 24, Saml Crothers 24, John Millo 5 (Miller), John Peasley 22. Samuel met and married​ Eliza Ann​ Keowan on June 2, 1856 at Guernsey, Ohio. They had 8 children: Mar​garet E.; William John​; Martha Ann; Benjamin​ R.; Matthew Douglas; ​Mary Josephine; George​ Turney; and Samuel Ed​ward (II). Family found in the 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1900 censuses living on the same farm at Liberty, Guernsey, Ohio: 1860: Sam has $320 in real estate and $130 in personal estate: Sam, age 32, Elisabeth (wife), age 21, both born in Ireland; Margaret, age 3; William, 2 months old; and Elisabeth Keown, age 60 (mother-in-law), born in Ireland. 1870: Samuel Carothers 42, Elizabeth Carothers 30, Margaret Carothers 13, William Carothers 10, Benjamine Carothers 6, Mary Carothers 3, Mathew Carothers 3. 1880: Samuel Carothers 51, Elisabeth A. Carothers 41, Benjamin R. Carothers 15, Mathew D. Carothers 13, Mary J. Carothers 13, George F. Carothers 9, Samuel E. Carothers 7. 1900: Samuel Corothers 74, Eliza Corothers 61, George T Corothers 29, Samuel E Corothers 26. Says emigrated 1847; married 1854. Samuel Edward Carothers died May​ 28, 1902 at Kimbolton​, Guernsey, Ohio and was buried at the Bell Cemetery, Liberty, Guernsey, Ohio. From the Cambridge Jeffersonian, May 29, 1902: "Samuel Carothers of Liberty township is very sick and not expected to survive many days. His disease is of the kidneys and his age is above 70 years." Samuel died of chronic nephritis. Additional Comments: Samuel's log home and other buildings are still standing in Guernsey County, Ohio.
