Never married, farmer. He was the oldest of three boys, his younger brothers were: Leonard Patterson Carothers (1908-1985) and William Glen Carothers (1916-1961). Found Samuel in the 1910, 1920, 1930 censuses living at Liberty, Guernsey, Ohio: 1910: Eliza A Carothers 71, George T Carothers 39, Samuel E Carothers 35, Ettie J Carothers 26, Samuel E Carothers Jr 3, Leonard R Carothers 1 10/12[1]. 1920: Eliza Carruthers 81, Samuel E Carruthers 45, George T Carruthers 47, Etta J Carruthers 36, Samuel E Carruthers 13, Leonard P Carruthers 11 (16], Wm G Carruthers 3( 3 8/12]. 1930: Turney G Carrothers 58, Etta Carrothers 46, Sam E Carrothers 23, Leonard P Carrothers 21, Glen W Carrothers 13, Edward S Carrothers 56. Obituary found in the Times Recorder, Zanesville, Ohio, July 29, 1972: Samuel E. Carothers, 65, of Kimbolton, Rt. 1, died at 5 p.m. Thursday in Guernsey, Ohio, Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness. Born October 13, 1906, Liberty, Guernsey, Ohio, he was a son of George Turney and Etta Phelps Carothers. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Mount Hermon Church at Kimbolton. Surviving are one brother, Leonard of Kimbolton, and two nieces and a nephew. Service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Scott Funeral Home. Rev. Raymond Lyons will officiate and burial will be in the Kimbolton Cemetery. Samuel Edward Carothers died July 27, 1​972 at Cambridge, Guernsey, Ohio. Buried at the Kimbolton Cemetery, Kimbolton, Ohio located one mile south of Kimbolton, Ohio on Route 33. Additional Comments: Censuses transcribed as found, obvious spelling errors not corrected. Samuel's grandfather was also named Samuel Edward Carothers as was his uncle (his father's brother).
