MAN DIES WHILE BATTLING HOUSE FIRE Cambridge, O.-A Guernsey County farmer died of a heart attack early Sunday as he attempted to battle a fire at his farm home on Birmingham road about six miles northwest of Antrim. Cletus P. Oliver, 62, of Kimbolton Route 2 was dead on arrival 8:08 a.m. Sunday (Feb.14) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital. Guernsey County Coroner William Larrick ruled death was caused by a heart attack. The body was taken to Thorn Funeral Home, here. According to Len Cole chief of the Antrim Volunteer Fire department, the fire caused by an over heated coal stove started in a false ceiling in the kitchen of the two-story frame farm house about 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Firemen were not notified until after 7 a.m. Cole said that Oliver had apparently been trying to cut a hole in weather boarding on the outside of the house so that he could try and douse the fire when he suffered a heart attack. hihs wife, Lela, was home at the time of the fire. A neighbor, Ogle Grimsley, rushed Oliver to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The blaze destroyed the six-room home. Only some of the furnishings were salvaged. Mr. Oliver was born May 25, 1902 in Guernsey County, a son of Nixon and Morna Rogers Oliver. He was married in June of 1924 to the former Lela Hartup. Surviving in addition to his wido, are two sons, Ronnie Oliver of Kimbolton Route 2 and Harold Oliver of East Canton; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Pauline) Smith of Lore City Route 1; a brother, Clifford Oliver of Blakewood; a sister, Lela Kendrick of Newcomerstown and six grandchildren. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday ar the funeral home. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Sellers and Rev. Ralph Bshard officiating. Burial will be in Clearfork Cemetery.
