OH and intended to settle there set up a grist and saw mill there, as he had in PA. The will below instructs his family to sell the land he now possessed in PA and purchase the land he had arranged to own in Jefferson Twp, Guernsey Co.. His family, following his last request, sold the land in PA and migrated in the fall after his death. Will of Abraham Armstrong deceased No. #186 In the Name of God, Amen, I Abraham Armstrong of Greene County Cumberland township & State of Pennsylvania being low in sickness but perfect sound of memory blessed be God for it, do this thirteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen, do make and constitute this as my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following to wit. First, I bequeath my Soul to God, my body to a Christian burial, and my Worldly affairs to be in the following manner divided, and as the place whereon I now live being sold. I request all the money coming for the purchase of said place after paying what Debts stands against me, to be laid out in the purchase of land in the State of Ohio, all whatever said money will purchase to be in one body deed to be of good land. And my dearly beloved wife Flora Armstrong to have her maintainence [sic] and be supported on said land during her lifetime if she remains my Widow, if so happen she should see cause to change from being a Widow and get married she is to have no more privelidge [sic] on said land nor be supported by the profits arising therefrom but to be given up for the benefit of my heirs, and their heirs, but remaining a Widow to be supported her lifetime and at her death to be as follows, to write to my eldest daughter Sarah Stevenson twelve dollars, and if in her old days she is like to come to want she is to have two acres of ground on one side of the place so as to not injure the place during her life time and at her death to be given up for the benefit of said place. And likewise my daughter Barbara Scott at her Mother's death is to have twelve dollars, and if she is like to come to want she is to have the same that Sarah Stevenson is to get to be given up at her death to the benefit of said place, and likewise Mary Scott and Hannah Montgomery, Flora Armstrong and Margaret Armstrong, each of them have twelve dollars paid at their Mother's death, and my daughter Flora Armstrong to live with her Mother and have her support off the land during her Mother's life and after her Mother's death, to still continue being supported during her life off said land. Whatever land is purchased in the State of Ohio, agreeable to what money will be after the demands that is against me is paid. I allow it to be in the following manner divided, to wit, according to quantity and quality amongst my seven sons, namely John, Thomas, Abraham, Laughlin, James, Joseph & William Armstrongs, to have their shares of said land what is allowed them each at the divide, during their life time, and at their deaths, to come into their heirs hands, all of them except my son Abraham Armstrong and his share that will be coming to him to do with it whatever he thinks proper. And whereas myself or heirs are bound to make my son John Armstrong a Deed for a certain twenty five acres of land whereon is a Mill seat with Saw Mill erected part of the place whereon I now live. I think it a full sufficiency for his Dowry or part that would be coming to him out of the land that is to be purchased in the State of Ohio; And likewise to be taken out of my son Thomas Armstrong's share that would be coming to him One hundred and thirty five dollars which I have paid to him towards his share; And likewise to be taken out of my son Laughlin Armstrong's share Sixty dollars; And out of my son Abraham Armstrong's share twenty five dollars which I have paid to each of them towards their shares. And I allow and request a ____ to be made against the first of June next to sell off all the property that can be spared off the place and to give ten months credit and whatever money the sale amounts to that can be spared is to go in help to purchase land and there is some small debts that is coming likewise I allow the Boys to collect and assist in settling my business. And I make my Friend Jeremiah Davidson Executor of this my last Will and Testament and desires him to see that the same is performed with agreeable to the true intent and meaning. Abraham Armstrong (Seal) In the presence of us: Felix Hughes Elezebeth henderson Greene County (Seal) On the eighth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen, before me John Boreman Register for the probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in and for the said County, personally came Felix Huges [sic] and Elezebeth Henderson the Subscribing Witness to the foregoing and annexed instrument of writing and on their solemn Oaths did depose and say, that they were present, and saw and heard Abraham Armstrong the Testator within named, sign, seal, publish, pronounce and diclare [sic] the same as and for his last Will and Testament, and that at the time of doing thereof, he was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge, observation and belief. Sworn and Subscribed the day above written, before me, John Boreman Register.
