Harry L. Burgoyne, the well-known attorney, of Cincinnati, Ohio, whose success in his chosen calling, has been gained by the strict adherance to honesty, and integrity, was born in Hamilton county, Ohio, June 15, 1860, a son of John and Jennie (Green) Burgoyne, Jr. John Burgoyne, Jr., was a son of John Burgoyne, who came to this county in 1814. John, Jr. was born in 1831 and was a native of Cincinnati, where he lived for seventy-two years. He was an attorney and lived all his life in Cincinnati. Mr. Burgoyne died in 1903; his wife is still living. They were the parents of seven children, three living and four deceased. Harry L. Burgoyne, whose name is the caption of this article, was "educated in the public schools of Cincinnati. He entered the Cincinnati Law School in 1879. He was graduated from this institution with the class of 1881, with the degree of Bachelor of Laws, and after finishing his course of study was admitted to the bar on June 15. He then began his practice on his twenty-first birthday, in Cincinnati, where he remained for one year, later removing to Spokane, Washington, where he lived for some time. In 1885, Mr. Burgoyne returned to Cincinnati, and here he associated himself with Judge Rufus B. Smith with whom he practiced his profession until 1892. He practiced individually for a time, and in 1894 he became connected with the legal department of the Union Central Life Insurance Company and holds this position at the present time. Fraternally, Mr. Burgoyne is a valued member of the Cincinnati Whist and Lawyers' clubs. He and his family affiliate with the Episcopal church and all are active in its affairs. Politically Mr. Burgoyne holds allegiance with the Republican party, and though he takes only a passing interest in the affairs of the public arena, he is ever ready and willing to help any cause that has for its object the welfare of the people, or the upbuilding of the community. On April 6, 1892, Mr. Burgoyne was united in marriage with Miss Jean Gibson, a daughter of Doctor James and Margaret (Eddy) Gibson. She was born in Colorado and received her education in San Francisco and Portland, Ore. To Mr. and Mrs. Burgoyne have been born two children and they are as follows: Margaret and Helen.
