Walter Schmitt, of the law firm of Bettinger, Schmitt & Kreis, is justly accorded a place among the prominent and distinguished citizens of Cincinnati, and Hamilton county, and he is widely known throughout the country as a lawyer of marked ability. He was born in Cincinnati, October 28, 1884, a son of Jacob and Josephine (Wessling) Schmitt, both of whom were natives of Cincinnati. Here he received his early education in the public schools, later attending the Y. M. C. A. Law School from which he was graduated with the class of 1906. Mr. Schmitt was admitted to the Bar and has since been actively engaged in the practice of his profession in this city. He is also a teacher of the Y. M. C. A. Law School of Cincinnati, and has held this position since 1909, being professor of the Law of Contracts. In politics Mr. Schmitt is a Republican, but has never cared to hold office even though he takes a great interest in the affairs of the state. Fraternally, Mr. Schmitt is a member of the Cincinnati Bar Association, the Knights of Columbus, the Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club and the Business Men's Club. He affiliates with the Catholic church, and takes an active interest in its affairs. On September 28, 1909, Mr. Schmitt was united in marriage with Miss Josie Kauther, who was born and educated in Cincinnati, a daughter of Philip Kauther, a prominent resident of that city.
