        Elizabeth Bates, wife of Joshua Bates, railroad contractor,
resides in Mount Airy, Green
township. Mr. Bates removed to his present elegant homestead in 1859. The
family are members of the
Methodist Episcopal church. John Bates (son) was a soldier in the cavalry
service under Kilpatrick,
during the late war.
