From the 14 October 1823 issue of the "Village Register" of West Union, Adams County, Ohio (on microfilm roll # 34944 in the Ohio Historical Society Archives at Columbus, Ohio) :

"DIED, in Cincinnati, on the 27th September, the Rev. Alexander Cummins, 
Presiding Elder in the Methodist Church, in the 37th year of his age.  By 
those who were acquainted with him, and who knew his worth, his death will be 
seriously regretted.  He was truly a christian; and an eminent minister of the 
gospel.  He has left a wife and two children to lament the loss of a tender 
husband and affectionate parent."
