The attendance was very large and was composed in a large measure of those who knew the deceased intimately during his life, and were associated with him in business, social and charitable relation, in all of which he was alike conspicuous. Mr. Levi at the time of his death was fifty-seven years of age. He was a native of Germany - born in Hohenzollern Hedgingen. He emigrated to this country in the spring of 1845, and has been a resident of Cincinnati ever since. In connection with his brothers, who survive him, he established the Star Distillery, on Walnut street, which became from the start and still continues a leading house in its line of business. The deceased figured conspicuously in all charitable enterprises and institutions as well as in the fraternities. He was a member of Lafayette Lodge F. and A.M.; of Mt. Carmel Lodge, No. 20, I.O. B’nai B’rith, in which he had been President, and had occupied other important positions in the District Grand Lodge of the I.O B.B.; he was a Trustee of the Hebrew Orphan Asylum at Cleveland, and at the time of his death was its Vice President. He was likewise one of the Governors of the Hebrew Union College and its Treasurer, and the founder of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; besides these he was an active supporter of every Jewish charitable institution. The deceased was an old member of the Bene Yeshurun (Plum Street) Temple, being its President from 1864 to 1867, and one of the main workers and contributors when the old Synagogue was exchanged for the new Temple. Being the possessor of a high degree of learning, he, during two intervals, filled the position of Rabbi in the congregation. The Sabbath-school, Hebrew Relief Association and United Hebrew Cemetery Association, all shared his wise counsels and unstinted liberality. Solomon Levi was an influential member of the Board of Trade and Chamber of Commerce, and was at his deceased a Director of the Globe Insurance COmpany and German National Bank. For many years he was President of the Covenant Endowment Association, and had only recently retired from a similar office in the Mutual Endowment Association. In these institutions he was more than an officer - he was a worker. Mrs. Levi and his only offspring, Mr. Louis Levi, survive the decease. Besides these, he leaves behind several brothers, and many relatives more remotely connected. His death has created a vacuum in the many positions which he creditably filled, and a long time will probably intervene are they occupied by one of equal ability and good intentions. THE FUNERAL Yesterday was one of the largest that has taken place here in several years. The Plum Street Temple was filled, and the precession of carriages lined all the adjacent squares. The following organizations were furnished front pews, and were largely represented: Lafayette Lodge, F. & A.M.; Grand Lodge, L.O.B.B.; Mt. Carmel Lodge, No. 20, I.O.B.B.; Board of Governors, Hebrew Union College, Bene Yeshuran Temple, and United Jewish Cemetery Board. The pall bearers were Messrs. James Brown, of the District Grand Lodge, I.O.B.B.; L. Rosenfeld, of Mt. Carmel Lodge; Henry Stix, of the Plum Street Temple, B. Lermann, of the Board of Governors, Hebrew Union College; Henry Mack.
