   JOSEPH W. CLASON, farmer, P. O. Mount Blanchard; born September, 1827, in
Stamford, Conn., is a son of Benjamin and Nancy (Ayres) Clason, natives of
Connecticut, both of whom died in that State. Benjamin Clason was the father of
seven children, four of whom are now living: Joseph W., Stephen, Samuel and
John, all in Connecticut except Joseph W. The subject of this sketch came to
Ohio in 1857, and settled in Amanda Township, this county, on land formerly
occupied by his brother James, who came to Ohio prior to this date and died
here. Joseph W. Clason had been a teacher in Connecticut for several years. He
belongs to a family who early learned to take care of themselves. He received a
fair education, as do most sons of New England, and, in 1858, married Sarah E.,
daughter of Sanford Smith. To this marriage were born two children: Solomon W.
(deceased) and Lillie A. Mr. Clason has 113 acres of good land in Amanda
Township, this county. He has been a successful farmer and has laid up a good
competency for himself and family.
