Williamstown, was born June 1, 1805. in Montgomery County, Md. He left Maryland in 1835 and came to Steubenville, Ohio. He ferried and farmed for seven years. He purchased 100 acres of land in Delaware Township, this county, in 1839, which he paid for by working for 50 cents per day; he came out and took possession of his property in April. 1842. His sister, Eletha Ramsey, came here and resided with him until her death, which occurred April 18, 1884, in her eighty-third year. James Ramsey is an earnest member of the United Brethren Church. He has never taken upon himself the cares of the matrimonial relation, but his life has been devoted principally to the benefit of others. He is strictly a self-made man, and his record in this community is such that he is respected wherever he is known. In politics he is a life-long Republican.
