BAKER, farmer, P. O. Larue, is a native of this county, and was born December 25, 1846. He is a son of Joseph and Matilda (Carmack) Baker, both natives of Pennsylvania and of German parentage. Our subject's father moved to this State in 1844 and settled in this county. where he died at the age of thirty-three years. The mother of our subject is still living, and resides in Kenton. Our subject was educated at the common schools of this county, and since his youth has followed the occupation of a farmer. He is the owner of ninety acres of land in Goshen Township, where he has resided for five years. He also raises stock, making a specialty of sheep, at which he has been very successful. Our subject was married, October 4, 1877, by the Rev. J. T. Sellers, to Miss Jane Hastings, daughter of James and Rachel (Hones) Hastings, the latter a native of Virginia. Mr. Hastings emigrated from Ireland at an early day. Mrs. Baker was born in this county October 30, 1846. By this union there have been two children-Hoyt L., born December 29, 1880, died May 8, 1881, and Minnie A., born July 24, 1882. Mrs. Baker is a member of the Presbyterian Church and Mr. Baker of the Methodist Episcopal Church, of which he is Steward and Trustee and Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday school, and Class Leader. Mr Baker is a Republican in politics; has been a member of the Freemasons seven years, Larue Lodge, No. 463; was Township Assessor in 1882, and is one of the useful citizens of Goshen Township.
