Claimed to have served in Capt. John Buchanon's Rifle's Company, numbering about 600; he volunteered at Dover, County of Kent, Delaware, the last of March or first of April, 1813; mustered out in July or August of 1813; never received a written discharge. Moved to Kenton, Hardin county Ohio, c.1843 with known children: Charles Lewis Shorts, Penal S. Shorts, Issac D. Shorts, Sarah Shorts Bowers. Nathaniel Shorts is buried in the St. Mary's-Grove Cemetery in Kenton, Hardin county Ohio.
