He came here with his parents in 1853. Mr. Stumm was the third son of Philip and Rebecca Stumm and was born in Spring Hill township, Fayette county, Penna., on Aug. 13, 1831 and was therefore aged 73 years, 7 months and 6 days. He learned the cooper's trade and for many years after moving to Ada he was foreman in the large League cooperage establishment then the largest industry here. His father died Sept. 12, 1854 and except for short periods spent in Dayton and Chicago, Thomas had been a resident of Ada and from about 1868 until her death on April 1891 he made his home with his mother. Mr. Stumm was never married nor had he affiliations with any lodge or church. He was an intelligent man and a man of good character and habits. He kept well posted on the current events of the day and was a man who attended strictly to his own affairs. He leaves three brothers -- John C., of Iowa; Jeremiah, of Illinois; Philip W., of Paulding; their only sister, Mrs. Jonas Loutzenhiser. The funeral occurred this forenoon at the Presbyterian church and was conducted by Rev. T. O. Christopher, assisted by Rev. J. F. Elder. The interment was at Woodlawn. Philip W. Stumm paid the deceased several visits during his six weeks' illness and was here at the time of his death, later making all needed arrangements for the funeral. His death was due to a complication of diseases involving the heart and kidneys.
