Thomas Latta in the militia commanded by Col. John Andrews in the war with Great Britain, declared by the United States on the 18th day of June, 1812; that her said husband was drafted, at the county of Jefferson, State of Ohio, at about the last of August or first part of September, one thousand eight hundred and twelve, (1812) for the term of six months, and continued in actual service in said war three months thereabouts, being more than fourteen days and was honorably discharged at Huron River, Ohio or Lower Sassdux, Ky, as she is informed and believed, some time about the last of November or first part of December one thousand eight hundred and twelve, 1812, in consequence of disability in the service. She further states that she was married to the said Jacob Naragong at Sheppardstown in the state of Virginia on the __ day of October, 1798, by one ___Kemp, a minister of the gospel and that her name before her said marriage was Barbara Gotshall. That her said husband died at his late residence in Harrison County, State of Ohio, on the second day of August in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty-six and that she is now a widow. She further declares that she has never applied for nor received under this or any other act of congress any bounty land warrant, nor did her said husband ever do so. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which she may be entitled under the act approved March 3rd, 1855, and she hereby appoints William Arnald of Cadiz, Ohio, her agent to receive her warrant for this claim. Signed: Barbara ___X___Naragong Her Mark This 21st day of January 1857, before me William Arnold, a Justice of the peace in the aforesaid county, personally appeared, Daniel Gotshall, who being duly sworn according to law, doth depose and says that Barbara Naragong, who has made application No. 221.933 for bounty land under the act of March 3, 1855, is his sister; that she was lawfully married to Jacob Naragong, deceased, who died at his late residence in Harrison County, Ohio on the second day of August, 1846. That to the knowledge of the affiant, the said Jacob Naragong, some time about the last of August or in September 1812 was drafted for the term of six months and entered the United States service as a private in Captain Thomas Latta's company, in the fifth reg. Ohio Militia, commanded by Col. John Andrews in the war with Great Britain, declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812; that said Jacob Naragong, when about to leave home, on said service, employed said affiant to the plow to put in his fall crop, which this affiant did to the best of his skill and ability; that some time in the month of December 1812, or January 1813, said Jacob Naragong returned home, with frozen feet being honorably discharged as affiant was then informed in consequence of his feet being frozen; that this affiant has no interest in the aforesaid claim of said Barbara Naragong. Signed: Daniel Gotshall The foregoing affidavits were sworn to and subscribed before me on the 21st day of January, 1857; and I certify that I know the affiants to be credible persons, and that I have no interest in the claim of said Barbara Naragong for bounty land as set forth in her said application or otherwise. Signed: William Arnold, Justice of the Peace We, Elizabeth Snedeker and Daniel Gotshall, residents of Harrison County in the State of Ohio, declare that the foregoing declaration was signed and acknowledged by Barbara Naragong in our presence; that we not only believe, but know the said Barbara Naragong to be the identical person she represents herself to be; that we were well acquainted with the said Jacob Naragong and Barbara Naragong in the life time of the said Jacob; that to our knowledge, they lived and cohabitated together as husband and wife for the term of forty years or more immediately preceding his death; that he died at his late residence in Harrison County, Ohio on the second day of August 1846, and that the said Barbara Naragong, the above applicant is now a widow.
