Dec. 1847.

"VIRGINIA, MORGAN COUNTY, to wit:
       KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That we, Isaiah Kerns and Peter Grofs, 
are held and firmly bound to the Commonwealth of Va. in the sum of One Hundred 
and Fifty Dollars, for the payment whereof, well and truly to be made to the 
said Commonwealth of Virginia for the use of the Commonwealth, we bind 
ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, 
firmly by these presents.
      Sealed with our seals, and dated this 8th day of December A.D. 1847.
      THE CONDITION OF THE ABOVE OBLIGATION IS SUCH, That whereas a Marriage 
is shortly intended to be had and solemnized between the said Isaiah Kerns and 
Sarah Grofs of this County.  Now, if there is no lawful cause to obstruct the 
said Marriage, then the above obligation to be void, else to remain in full 
force and virtue.

Additional Comments:
          The above transcribed document was found in a box of the personal 
effects of Norma P. Stevens of Highland County, Greenfield, Ohio.  I purchased 
the box  at her home at public auction just a few days after her death.  The 
source of the document is not given, but it must be from the Morgan County, 
Virginia court records.  Morgan county would now be in West Virginia.
