The cemetery is on the east side of the road, just over the boundary line of Section 1 & Section 2. This cemetery has been vandalized over the last 20 years. The stones that were still upright in the late 1970's were down and leaning against trees in the Summer of 2000. Local residents say that as many as 18 people could be buried in this location. The current owner's, who bought the property in the Fall of 2000, destroyed the cemetery site by the Spring of 2001. A trailer now rests on the cemetery location. The stones were moved to Asbury Cemetery and were placed next to the headstones of Israel and Mary (Craig) Nichols. Even though the headstones were moved to the Asbury Cemetery, the mortal remains of these family members remain in the Campbell Craig Cemetery. The following is a list of the 6 headstones that we found in the summer of 2000. It is possible that the current landowners have found additional stones, but have not come forth with them. #1 Catherine (Craig) wife of W. Campbell died Feb 20 1861, 28y, 6m, 8d. (This is the daughter of Hugh and Jane Ann (Jenkins) Craig. The base for her headstone was the only base that we found in June of 2000. Mr Paul Napier, township trustee, said that he found 2 additional bases but we could not find them. He had said that these 2 additional bases were just east of Catherine's base. Ron and Grace Minor reattached Catherine's headstone to its base in late summer of 2000. Grace is a descendant of the Campbell and Morgan families of Starr Township. #2 Catherine, wife of Jonathan Walls, died Dec 18 1858, aged 80 years. (This is Catherine (Johnston) Craig Walls. First the wife of Robert Craig and second the wife of Jonathan Walls. She is also the mother of Hugh Craig and also thought to be the mother of Mary (Craig) Nichols wife of Israel. Catherine came to this country from Ireland with her 1st husband Robert Craig in 1804. #3 Hannah, daughter of H. & J.A. Craig died June 7 1859, aged 15y, 20d. (She is the daughter of Hugh and Jane Ann (Jenkins) Craig) #4 Henry Nichols died Sept 1 1852 in 87th year of life. (His wife Rachel is also thought to be buried in the cemetery. Henry's granddaughter, Cynthia Mathews, married William Marshall Craig, son of Hugh and Jane Ann ( Jenkins) Craig. Henry is also the father of Israel and Andrew Nichols who sold the land to Hugh & Jane Ann Craig.) #5 David, son of H & J.A. Craig died Sept 22 1852, aged 12y, 1m, 6d. (He is the son of Hugh and Jane Ann (Jenkins) Craig.) #6 Leander, son of H & J.A. Craig died June 5 1859, 9y, 3m, 22d. (He is also the son of Hugh and Jane Ann (Jenkins) Craig.) Several footstones were also found for the above people.
