On Monday, August 6, 2001, I had the opportunity to accompany Mr. Ed Pool, and his son of Bremen, Ohio, to photo document this single uninscribed memorial stone erected by estimation before 1867. We traveled south east out of Laurelville on State route 56, turned north on Big Pine Rd (tr156), this being near the border of Salt Creek & Perry Township lines. Just a very short distance past the township road Grin Hollow (tr211), you turn left or north on Wagner Rd.(tr155), take the first fork in the road to the right, this is Little Pine Rd.(twp 159), stay on this until you pass Wynkoop Rd.(tr158), there's a farm house located at the end of Little Pine, the memorial stone is situated between two wild cherry trees, just north or behind the vegetable garden in the back yard of this private property. The resident is not the property owner, but was very kind to talk to us and allow us to view and photograph the large dressed field stone memorial. I also found another smaller stone located aproximately 9 feet directly east of the head stone, I have to presume it to be a foot stone. This rather large stone contains no inscriptions, the edges are smoothly tooled in the manner common for the period of mid 1800's. Her husband Peter, may be buried next to her, it is unclear whether he is laid to rest in nearby Wynkoop Cemetery. According to the family record, the home which stands today, is not the original homestead, but a home built in about 1900 by a grandson Jacob William Wynkoop. There does exist a deed owned by a family member, showing and describing an area set off as a family cemetery, stating it to be kept for the family forever. All the information given to me pertaining to this burial has been through family history handed down to each new generation, plus written record mentioned on early property land deed. Robert M. Sizelove, Sr. (c) 08 Aug. 2001 Maria "Polly" (Langendyck) Wynkoop, Born Abt 1800, died bef. 1867, wife of Peter Henry Wynkoop, Sr. [mother of Peter Henry Wynkoop, Jr. who is buried at Karshner Cemetery on Big Pine Rd.(CR11), Salt Creek Twp. Hocking Co., Ohio] Family historians believe, although there's no inscribed memorial to be found, this to be the most likely burial location of Peter Henry Wynkoop, Sr.
