Maxwell, 87, Summoned By Death. (Steubenville, Oh. newspaper, died 13 Feb. 1967) David G. Maxwell, former three-term mayor of Mingo Junction, died at 5:20 p.m., Monday in Ohio Valley Hospital, Steubenville, after a lengthy illness. He was 87. Mr. Maxwell had been residing with his son, Joseph E. Maxwell of Efts Lane, Wintersville, since 1963. Mr. Maxwell was elected mayor of Mingo Junction in 1915 and served three consecutive terms. In 1947, he was elected mayor of the community of New Alexandria, again serving three terms. Retired in 1945 Mr. Maxwell retired in 1945 from the Old Carnegie-Illnois Steel Co., at Mingo Junction, where he had worked 42 years. He was superintendent of the plants transportation and labor department. Active in civi affairs, he helped pioneer the first hospital in Steubenville and later served on the board of directors of Ohio Valley Hospital until 1946. He served on the Mingo Board of Education in the early 1930's and at one time was superintendent of the Mingo Junction playgrounds. He was past president of the New Alexandria Cemetery Association and past president of the Farmers Institute Association. He aslo was a past master of the Liberty Grage. Elder, Clerk in Church Mr. Maxwell, was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, Mingo Jct. serving as an elder and clerk of sessions for many years. A 32nd. Degree Mason, Scottish Rite, he was a member of Steubenville Lodge 45, F & AM, and the IOOF of Steubenville. He leaves three sons, Joseph E. Maxwell of Wintersville, David M. Maxwell of Fort Myers, Fla., Howard C. Maxwell, of Steubenville; a daughter, Mrs. W.J. (Alice) Christie of Palo Alto, Ca.; a brother, Robert B. Maxwell of San Jose, Calif; a sister Mrs. Ella Lowman of Steubenville; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. His wife, Mrs. Ina Rhea Kline Maaxwell, died in 1954. He also is preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and a sister. Friends may call at the Murphy-Blaschalk Funeral Home, Mingo Jct., from 2-4 pm., and 7-9 pm., today and Wednesday; Masonic services there Wednesday, 7:30 pm. by Lodge 45; IOOF services Wednesday, 8 pm at First United Presbyterian Church, Mingo Junction; Rev. Mr. Moss Rutan; the body will lie in state in the church from 11 a.m., Thursday until service time; burial in New Alexandria Cemetery.
