On Saturday morning, the 14th inst., at the place of his residence, in Smithfield
Township, Jefferson County, Ohio, John Sherrard, Sr., in the 73d year of his age. He
emigrated to Jefferson County with his father’s family, more than fifty-five years
ago, when the country was quite new, and but little improved. He had been a useful
member of Old Centre and Beach Spring Presbyterian churches, for a period of over
forty-three years. He also served his country in a six months tour of duty, in the
War of 1812, under Capt. Gilmore…
