Sizelove, Sr. ohiocempics@gmail.com March 16, 2009 *********************************************************************** Owl Creek Church Cemetery Morgan Twp., Knox Co., OH Twp. Road 144 (Owl Creek Church Road) at Prairie Rd. Images for this cemetery can be found at: http://www.usgwarchives.net/oh/tombpics/knox/morgantwp/owlcreekcem/owlcreekchurchcem.htm This well cared for cemetery is located directly across the road from the Owl Creek Baptist Church, founded in 1866. This cemetery is located on an elevated parcel of land, next to the roadway, appearing to be two or three acres in size, a few miles north of Utica, Oh., east of SR 13, which can be found by taking Arrington Road to Owl Creek Church Rd., and staying on it until you see the church and cemetery. The postal address for the church is Mt. Vernon, OH. The church originally owned the cemetery, but later a cemetery association was formed, and presently controls and contracts for the maintenance of this cemetery. I have found quite early burials here, earliest death date thus far being 1814, and possibly earlier. So, the cemetery actually predates the church by as much as 50 years. The cemetery is still in use to this date, there are many recent burials, which means it has been in use continually for almost 200 years. The cemetery is of mid size, probably near a thousand burials. My readings start at the gate entrance, read in rows left to right. My readings stop at the cement walk way. I read the first 5 rows in order (left of the walkway), however my time schedule did not permit reading entire cemetery, but hope to return later this summer to resume this task. I did read and photograph many other stones, not in ordered rows and will notate where my readings for ordered rows ended. The cemetery contains many very old tombstones, most of the sandstone type have eroded due to weatherization to a condition where they are sadly no longer readable. Data listed below within brackets are my personal notions and observations and not inscriptions found on the memorial. I have used the underline key to represent words or numbers I could not clearly transcribe. Robert M. Sizelove, 16 March, 2009 ? Row 1 i.
