Briggs, of Amherst, the inventor of explosives, who died last Wednesday night, in that place, and whose body will be brought to this city Sunday afternoon between one and two o'clock to be laid to rest in our Evergreen Cemetery was a former resident and well known here. He was 54 years old and was born in Painesville, residing here until after his marriage with Miss Jessie Foster, daughter of Mrs. Almeda Foster of Richmond Street. his death was caused by heart failure. Mr. Briggs was actively engaged in the business world, he was manager of the American Dynalite Company. Owner of the Briggs Chemical company and director of the Lorain County Bank at Elyria. He went to Amherst about twelve years ago. he invented dynalite, a substitute for dynamite, and was one of the organizers of the American Dynalite Co. Later he started the Briggs Chemical Co. which has a large plant in Amherst. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30. he is survived by a widow and two daughters, Mrs. Richard Allen, living at home, and Mrs. John Rawson, of Elyria.
