L. P. ORT WAS SUMMONED BY DEATH ANGEL - Was City's Pioneer Resident Beloved Lady Died at Nine O'Clock Tuesday Night After Long Life Rich in Good Deeds. Mrs. L. P. Ort, pioneer resident of the city, died at nine o'clock Tuesday night at her home on south Third street, above Washington. She was the widow of L. P. Ort, the founder of the Irontonian and during the early years of that newspapers' life he guided its destiny and shaped its policies. Mr. Ort passed to his reward many years ago. The decedent was in good health until a very short time ago, when she was compelled to take to her bed, suffering from the infirmities attendant upon her advanced age, and she failed rapidly until her spirit winged its flight about nine o'clock Tuesday night. The two daughters, Misses Anna and Emma Ort, were at their mother's bedside constantly during her illness, looking to her care and comfort, doing all that loving hearts and willing hands could do to make the last hours of their aged parent peaceful and happy. Mrs. Ort was gifted with a sweet, lovable disposition and was loved by her every acquaintance. She was known throughout the city, one of its oldest and most esteemed residents and the announcement of her passing bears grief to many hearts, though the burden of sorrow rests upon the members of the family, for it was there that her interest centered. She showered her mother love upon the children and reared them to fine manhood and womanhood. She has made her home in the old family residence on south Third street, with her two daughters, Misses Anna and Emma Ort. The sons, George, Frank, William, Lewis and Charles Ort have taken positions of importance in the world of business. Throughout their lives the saintly mother had guided them by precept and advice. She was a true, devoted mother of the old school, and the burden of sorrow of the children is indeed a heavy one. The boys arrived today on the noon train and the funeral services will be arranged later. The services will be held at St. Lawrence church, of which Mrs. Ort was a devoted member, but definite arrangements have not yet been made. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organization or persons.
