The paperwork we have so far is all handwritten (a reason why so many misspellings are encountered), some of it esasy to read, other portions difficult. On this Se?venth day of June in the year of our - Lord one Thousand Eight hundred and Forty Three personally appeare?d/a befor the Judges of the court of common pleas in & for said county of Licking, Christena Barlet a resident of Eden Township in the county of Licking aforesaid aged Seventy Eight years, who being first duly sworn, according to law, doth on her oath Make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the (provision?) Made by the act of Congress (passed?) July 7th 1838 Entitled "An Act Granting half pay and pensions to certain widows." That she is the widow of Jacob Barlet who was a private in the army of the Revolution - and one of Genl Washingtons Life Guard - & that he was a pensioner of the United States - placed on the Pennsylvania Roll of Pensions and in the spring of the year 1833 She as the widow of said Jacob Barlett - drew Sevventeen Dollars - being a?s?i?e?ys of Pension due to her said husband at the time of his death - By Joseph S Lake Esq of (Woster) Ohio where she then resided - & who informed her that the pension certificate of the late? Jacob Barlett was left at the War Department by Law? J S Lake --- She further declares that she was Married to the late Jacob Barlett in the month of September in the year Seventeen hundred & Eighty five and that her husband the aforesaid Jacob Barlett died on the 20th day of April (1828) Eighteen hundred and Twenty Eight; That she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, previous but the marriage took place V To the first of January Seventeen hundred and ninety four. viz? at the time above specified - and is still unmarried? and?
